All of us struggle w/ pride – it is in our nature! It came from the sin in the garden.  And it exalts the self! The root of pride, division and contentions is selfish ambition and conceit. The remedy is humility. Humility is “others centered”. The ultimate example of humility is revealed in Jesus Christ and His demonstration of humility and love (for us).  Jesus’ mind and heart is “others centered”.   We must desire to live by His example – by His mind, by His attitude.  Our lives must be characterized by obedience to work out the fruit of our salvation – to desire to be obedient to Him to live a life of holiness; to behave as citizens of the gospel of Christ. Even though we won’t fully arrive in this lifetime, we have the plumb line: Jesus’ demonstration of humility and love was selfless and obedient the point of death – even death on a cross. Certainly, we can purpose to demonstrate humility and love that is selfless to the point of death to self.
